I have been managing video game parties for about 8 years now and I have seen about 30 companies come and go in the Atlanta metro area. The story is always the same with each one that pops up and their cycle is one of failure. Each year 3-4 new companies jump into this market believing they will become instant millionaires and their lack of business acumen is quickly checked by the reality of the industry.
The first thing the excited new video game truck business does is attempt to enter the market with the most cut-rate equipment possible. I have seen one company that used pictures of trucks that looked exactly like our professionally designed game theaters but would show up to events with a car that had headrest tvs - no exaggeration the moms would call us in a crying frenzy about them all the time the few months they operated.
Another company cut costs on generator installation & maintenance and created an unsafe environment that ended up with about 30 guests, and the company employees, having to be transported by ambulance due to severe carbon monoxide poisoning. There are a few dozen stories like these and the common denominator in each was their attempt to offer events to customers at very low pricing, resulting in the creation of unsafe party conditions.
The next mistake failing video game truck companies make is their constant attempt to operate their business below operating costs due to their lack of understanding of basic pricing strategies. The fact is that 99.9999% of video game truck companies are currently operating at insolvency for their business. They confuse their inbound cash for profits but the majority of video game truck businesses are operating at huge losses due to the costs required for operating the business.
These shortfalls are not noticed until the first emergency occurs when equipment fails and the company has no contingency plan or capital available to ensure their party schedule is not affected. We take a few dozen calls each week from parents who are panicking about their kid's birthday being canceled due to the cut-rate game truck operator having to cancel for maintenance issues. We try to help as much as possible, but due to our reputation we are sold out each week on multiple routes so we have very few last minute times available.
Video game truck parties are not a cheap party idea and the concept is the one of the premier birthday ideas available. The concept includes a party venue that travels to your location, provides a safe party environment inside the all-weather game theater, is managed by a video game expert that is highly trained in managing large groups, and guaranteed gaming for 16-20 gamers for 2 hours. The costs associated with creating the same party environment on your own would run into the $1000s. The video game library our Game Caves carry alone is valued at over $50,000 and not too many private gamers invest that sum into video games.
The pricing that a company gives you will be an indication of the service you can expect in return. The lower the price will be reflected in the quality and reliability of the equipment that comes out to your big event. New companies and party brokers will have extremely high prices while struggling companies will have very low pricing or be featured on deal sites like Groupon.
The best way to make a choice on you party service is to look at the reviews each one has online and also the way the owners respond to the reviews. You will find the true character of each business in their reputation and responses to poor service given. This is especially important if you are dealing with a third-party brokers, so I recommend you Google the company's address online and compare to other reviews for the same address as they constantly change names to confuse customers.
At Game Cave, we do not compete with other companies on any level as our reputation over the last decade has created a tribe of customers that spread our services like a wildfire to other parents across Georgia. We in turn deliver the best, most reliable video game party available to all our customers new or years old. We may not be the cheapest party in town but we are the one that a "Who's Who" list of Atlanta families rely on for their children's big events.
