Recently a local video game party company made national news for an unfortunate incident where over a dozen young gamers and employees fell victim to carbon monoxide poisoning at a video game party. This is following another issue where one of the same company's outside activities led to a participant receiving a traumatic brain injury due to the collision he incurred playing the outside game that was rented. Due to the high volume of calls about these issues we wanted to address how we prevent these types of situations.
According to the CNN report, the carbon monoxide issue was caused by improperly operating generator exhaust for the generator that was installed inside the cab of the video game trailer as well as non-functioning carbon monoxide detectors that were installed (dead batteries). Fortunately reports are that the dozen children & employees that were affected were released from the hospital without any further issues. Game Cave Atlanta is not associated with this other company in any way and our equipment is designed completely different with our generators being mounted outside the game trailer with the exhaust ports venting into the open air. Additionally, we have multiple plug-in type carbon monoxide detectors that are installed inside all our Game Caves that are placed at opposite ends to ensure complete coverage of the detection system. Our detectors work off electricity so there is no chance of them having dead batteries, and they are also checked daily for operation. Our generators are maintained professionally and adhere to a strict maintenance schedule to include the exhaust systems being serviced prevent any functional issues. Secondly, Game Cave Atlanta does not do any outside activities where the party guests have any chance of being injured. This includes activities like laser tag, zorb balls, bounce houses, etc where children are in motion and are at risk of being injured. This is due to the chance of you as the party host and our company being held liable for any injuries that may occur. These outside events are very risky for liability and we have witnessed other company's activities cause injuries to partygoers so we focus on safe gaming inside the video game theater as our primary goal. When booking these riskier activities we highly recommend that you ask for a certificate of insurance from the company you are doing business to ensure they are properly covered for any issues that may occur. Many companies in this industry are not properly covered for these types of activities and this presents a severe risk to you as the party host.
